This is another step towards equality between men and women that the Iranian mathematician and teacher, Miriam Mirzakhani sacred Laureate Fields, August 12, 2014 realized.

Awarded only to men since its inception in 1936, the Fields Medal considered the mathematical equivalent of the Nobel Prize obviously does discount for the first time to a woman this year.

Teacher at the famous Stanford University today Myriam Mirzakhani is not his first time in the field of the novel: During high school, she became the first Iranian to win several gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1994 and 1995 and was then aged 17. The young woman continued her studies at the Sharif University of Technology (Tehran) before finally settling in the United States where she obtained her Ph.D. in mathematics at the prestigious Harvard University.

Rewarding major mathematical discoveries of the past four years, the price Fields highlights the considerable research mathematician in the field of dynamical systems and symmetry of curved surfaces. For simplicity, the recent work of Myriam Mirzakhani initiate the possibility of calculating the surface of any object of varied and complex dimensions, which would be possible one day to measure the size of the universe!

As she said at the presentation of his award: “It is a great honor. I would be happy if it would encourage future young scientists and mathematicians (…) and I’m sure in the coming years, more and more women will hold that type of price.
