Turmeric is a spice that comes from the root « curcuma longa » plant grown for over 5000 years in southern Asia. Known for its use in the Eastern and Asian cuisine, turmeric powder is also a powerful textile and food coloring. But what is generally known of this spice to bright yellow color is that it is above all a major component of Ayurvedic and Chinese traditional medicine.

Turmeric is indeed recognized for several centuries in the East for its beneficial effects on health: it is believed to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant exceptional virtues. Recently recognized for its effectiveness in European studies, its use allows in particular to strengthen the immune system to act against digestive disorders, to participate in the functioning of faith and strengthen bones.

Rich in antioxidant vitamin C, turmeric powder help slow aging. In traditional Asian medicine, its use is known to prevent diseases such as cholesterol, diabetes and even cancer.

Spice thousand uses, turmeric is also an integral part of many beauty rituals throughout Asia. In India, for example it is used by brides who imbue in the face before the ceremony to have a bright and uniform complexion. Simple recipe mask to apply turmeric 1 time per week:

Warning: before using on your skin, take care to buy your turmeric powder in specialized organic shops or natural quality products.

For mates to dark skin:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt
  • some honey

Mix together and apply on the entire face. Leave for 10-20 minutes until the mask dries, then rinse with warm water.

For clear skin:

  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt
  • some honey

Mix together and apply on the entire face. Leave for 5-10 minutes until the mask dries, then rinse with warm water.

Given the coloring action of turmeric, a yellow tan may appear on the lightest skin after rinsing the mask. Do not panic: the residue of turmeric is easily removed with cotton and micellar water, or a gel with suitable cleanser.
